Ouahbi: Scotland will pose different problems for Morocco

Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi struck a calm and confident tone on Thursday ahead of his side’s Group C clash against Scotland at the 2026 World Cup, stressing that the Atlas Lions are ready for a new challenge following their performance against Brazil.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s game at Boston Stadium, Ouahbi said every match presents its own challenges and requires different solutions on the pitch.

«Tomorrow is a different game. Scotland will pose different problems, and we must find the right answers», he said, adding that all areas of his team are functioning well and that the squad is approaching the match with confidence and composure.

Reflecting on Morocco’s opening match against Brazil, the coach described it as a highly technical and physically demanding encounter. He expects Friday’s clash with Scotland to be even more direct and intense from an athletic standpoint.

«The physical battle against Scotland will be decided in part by second balls, but the most important thing is our ability to take control of the match», he explained.

Ouahbi also stressed the importance of making the right tactical choices to allow his team to fully express its game against an opponent known for its commitment and work rate.

In that regard, he cautioned against reducing Scotland to a single player.

«It is a generous team that is not limited to Scott McTominay. They have several strengths and deserve our full attention», he said.

The Morocco coach also sought to reassure supporters about the condition of his squad, saying all players are fit and in good spirits.

«All the players are doing well. Their physical condition and mindset are excellent», he said.

Ouahbi expressed confidence that Morocco will continue to improve as the tournament progresses.

«You will see this team continue to grow. It is never easy to play your first World Cup match against Brazil and hold your own against them», he noted.

Asked about the performance of young midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi against the Seleção, Ouahbi said he was not surprised.

«Bouaddi is not a discovery for me. Given his age, what he did against Brazil was exceptional. He is a young man who knows how to keep his feet on the ground», he said.

While praising the youngster’s display, Ouahbi emphasized that Morocco’s strength lies above all in its collective spirit.

«Every player is important, and everyone has a role to play in the team’s success», he concluded.

Morocco face Scotland on Friday in a key Group C encounter that could prove decisive in the race for qualification to the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup.
