Morocco braces for heatwave and thunderstorms through Tuesday

A heatwave, hot weather, and thundery showers with a risk of hail and gusts of wind during storms are expected from Saturday to Tuesday in several Moroccan provinces, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) said.

Hot weather (39/42°C) is forecast for Saturday and Sunday in the provinces of Taza, Berkane, Oujda-Angad, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, and Taounate, the DGM said in an orange-level weather alert bulletin.

A heatwave (39/44°C) will also affect, from Saturday to Tuesday, the provinces of Errachidia, Jerada, Taourirt, Figuig, Zagora, Tata, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, Aousserd, Guercif, Boulemane, Assa-Zag, and Es-Semara.

Meanwhile, thundery showers with a risk of hail and gusty winds during storms (20 to 30 mm) are expected on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the provinces of Khenifra, El Hajeb, Ifrane, and Sefrou, the statement concluded.
