Tensift water basin agency warns of deadly dam swimming risks

The Tensift Water Basin Agency has launched an awareness campaign targeting residents and visitors around several dams within its jurisdiction, warning of the dangers of swimming in reservoirs and stressing the importance of following safety measures to prevent loss of life.

The initiative comes as summer temperatures rise and increasing numbers of people—particularly young people—are drawn to dam reservoirs for swimming and recreation. However, these bodies of water pose serious risks, as they are not designed for swimming and contain potentially life-threatening hazards.

The agency noted that every year, several dam reservoirs are the scene of tragic drowning incidents resulting from swimming in unsafe areas.

As part of the campaign, field teams are conducting outreach visits in communities near the dams to raise awareness of the dangers associated with swimming in reservoirs and to inform the public of the precautions that should be taken.

The Tensift Water Basin Agency urged citizens to remain vigilant, respect warning signs and comply with all safety instructions.
