Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra has ranked first among Morocco's public universities for the eighth consecutive year in the 2026 edition of the prestigious Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.

Among 1,646 universities from 116 countries and territories assessed this year, the university placed in the 401-600 global band, reaffirming its position as Morocco's leading public university and highlighting its commitment to sustainable development, according to the ranking. The results were announced on Wednesday during the 2026 Global Sustainable Development Congress, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 22 to 25.

In a statement, the university said it had strengthened its standing both nationally and internationally, recording notable improvements across several Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) categories, including Partnerships for the Goals, Affordable and Clean Energy, Quality Education, Zero Hunger, Clean Water and Sanitation, and Decent Work and Economic Growth, among others.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings is currently the only global ranking that evaluates universities based on their contribution to achieving the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The rankings assess institutions on their performance in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, governance and societal impact, the statement added.
