Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi said he was «very proud» of the Atlas Lions despite their 2-0 defeat to France in the World Cup quarter-finals, praising their commitment and insisting the elimination would not alter the team's ambitions.
«We gave everything. We tried everything. We wanted to perform better with the ball, but the French put us under tremendous pressure. They created the better chances and were superior at key moments», Ouahbi said after the match, while congratulating France, which he described as «a very great team».
The coach stressed that he preferred to focus on Morocco's overall progress rather than the result alone. «I am very proud of what we have achieved. I am pleasantly surprised by how quickly the players embraced my philosophy. They showed an exemplary mindset and a tremendous desire to improve», he said.
Ouahbi called on his squad to learn from the defeat and keep moving forward. «We must continue, be self-critical, lift our heads and come back even stronger. This elimination will not slow our ambition», he said.
He also praised the constant support of King Mohammed VI for the development of Moroccan football, saying the Kingdom's recent achievements were the result of the Sovereign's «vision» and long-term investment.
«We have all the ingredients to continue our progress», he added, pointing to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, World Cup qualifiers and Morocco's ambition to «win» the 2030 World Cup on home soil. «We have a great pool of young players and everything we need to keep progressing», he concluded.
