The Danish vessel Ultra Innovation that was carrying a load of Moroccan phosphate belonging to OCP and which was detained Wednesday 17th May in the Panama Canal, has finally been released and will be heading to Vancouver, Canada, Media 24 reports based on information provided by a «reliable source». Ultra Innovation was held by local authorities for 48 hours and should be in Vancouver's port by the 1st of June.
The 50,000-tons phosphate cargo had been immobilized following a court order emitted by a Panamanian court. The ship was meant to deliver its load to Agrium, a Canadian retail supplier of agricultural products and services in North America.
The Polisario Front's strategy was planning to reproduce what happened weeks ago in South Africa when a 50,000-tons Moroccan phosphate vessel destined towards New Zealand was stopped in Port Elizabeth on the first of the same month. A South African court had indeed ordered a seizure of the goods.
The lawyers in charge of the case will have to provide evidence showing that the OCP subsidiary, Phosboucraa, operates within the international laws and regulations. The court will issue its ruling on the 9th of June.
