The funeral of Master Corporal Abdeljalil Zitouni, soldier of the FAR contingent of the Multidimensional Stabilization Mission of the United Nations in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), who died on the 13th of May while on an escort mission of a UN military engineering team, took place on Sunday in the rural commune of Retba in the province of Taounate.

The funeral attended by the commanders of the squares of Fez and Taza, as well as a commission composed of the officers of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the South Zone General Staff, was marked by a message of condolences and compassion from King Mohammed VI, the Supreme Leader and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, to the family of the deceased.

The funeral of Chief Warrant Officer Mbark Azyz, also a military member of the MINUSCA FAR contingent, who also died on the same day while on an escort mission to a UN military, took place Sunday in Tazarine in the province of Zagora.

Likewise, presided by the brigadier general, commander of the sector of Ouarzazate, the funeral was marked by the reading of the letter of condolences addressed by the Sovereign.

Several senior civilian and military figures, including the governor of Taounate province, Hassan Belahdfa and the governor of Zagora province, Abdelghani Samoudi, attended the funeral, along with the family and relatives of the two deceased.

Married, Master Corporal Abdeljalil Zitouni was born in 1985. Chief Warrant Officer Mbark Azyz was born in 1969 and is the father of four children. They were killed when an unidentified armed group attacked their patrol, which was the escort of a UN Cambodian military engineering team.
