President of the COP22, Salaheddine Mezouar, could not hide his «profound disappointment» following the decision taken by Donald Trump and which announces the US withdrawal from the Paris climate accord signed on April 2016.
In a communiqué issued by the COP22 presidency and reported by MAP, Mezouar insists that «despite this step, the dynamics of climate action will remain undeniable and irreversible», adding that «collective efforts to combat climate change do not end there, not today, quite the contrary».
«Nations around the world, state and non state actors, governments, the civil society, companies, NGOs, cities and universities are already fully committed to help reach a clean, sustainable future full of job and business opportunities while respecting the environment», he confirmed.
«We will remain ambitious, collaborating and perusing our efforts to put into practice the Paris accord that was affected in Marrakkech», he said.
«We reaffirm that we are determined more than ever, and we will continue to work collectively for climate and sustainable development, especially for the most vulnerable, and the future of our children and our planet depends on it», Mezouar concluded.
