Authorities have restrained a women’s demonstration in the city of Al Hoceima on Saturday night, Reuters news agency reports. Protesting against corruption, the ladies were forced to leave a park while others were banned from joining them.

«Police encircled hundreds of female protesters (…) as the women chanted «freedom, dignity and social justice». Female police officers and riot police pushed the leader of the protest, Nawal Ben Aissa, a prominent member of Hirak, away from the group. She was accompanied at the protest by Zefzafi's mother», the same source indicates.

Protests have started five months ago, when a fishmonger from Al Hociema named Mohcine Fikri, got crushed by a dumpster truck trying to save his confiscated fish. Since then the northern city has been shaken by demonstrations. Led by Nasser Zefzafi, who was later arrested by the authorities for interrupting a Friday prayer sermon, Al Hociema’s inhabitants started protesting on a daily basis.
