King Mohammed VI just gave his High instructions to «immediately solve the situation of a group of thirteen Syrian refugee families stranded at the border between Morocco and Algeria» near Figuig. The communiqué issued by the Palace on the evening of the 20th of June 2017, which also happens to be the World Refugee day, does not provide further details regarding the «immediate» solution. Is Morocco going to grant the Syrian families entry to the territory after having rejected them for weeks?

These families have been expelled from Algeria more than a month ago but were not granted access to Morocco, which resulted in their blockage between the Moroccan and Algerian border checkpoints. The situation was becoming critical due to the heat waves in the deserted region.

In December 2012, Sub-Saharan families have experienced a similar situation albeit reverted : expelled by Morocco but rejected by Mauritania, these families remained blocked in the desert without a royal intervention this time.
