150 people have been arrested following the march that was organized on the 26th of June, the first day of Eid Al-Fitr, Khadija Ryadi a member of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) told Middle East Monitor. Inhabitants of Al hoceima and neighboring villages, during the manifestation, called for the release of the detainees including Nasser Zefzafi, leader of the Hirak popular movement.
According to Khadia Ryadi, «forty were still detained this morning, many of them from neighboring communities who were arrested when they came to demonstrate». Clashes however broke out between protesters and police officers on Monday when they tried to block the entry to the city preventing people from protesting.
According to AFP news agency, 79 police officers were injured after being hit by stones. 50 of them were wounded on Monday while 29 others got injured on Thursday in new clashes that occurred in Imzouren.
On Sunday, King Mohammed VI expressed his anger and dissatisfaction during government council meeting over the delay of a development project in the region of Al Hoceima.
