Geert Wilders, the Dutch politician and founder of the Party For Freedom (PVV) has reacted negatively to the nomination of Ahmed Marcouch as a mayor for Arnhem city. Wilders wrote on his official twitter that the «PVV hates the fact that Ahmed Marcouch will become Arnhem’s mayor», Ad.nl reports.

The Dutch MP known for his criticism of Islam and Moroccans announced on his tweet that Tomorrow afternoon he would protest alongside members of his political party in front of Anrhem’s town hall.

Replying to that, Marcouch speaking to the same source said «that he is happy living in a country where everybody’ s got the right to protest, regardless of the reasons, origins and political opinions».

The 51-year-old Dutch-Moroccan politician was not surprised by Wilders’ decision stating that «he is happy to be living in a country where people can be themselves, Muslim women can wear the veil without being discriminated and homosexuals can walk hand in hand in the streets. This freedom characterizes our nation. And this is what I am fighting for».

For the record, Ahmed Marcouch has recently been elected as the mayor of Arnhem, a city located in the eastern part of the Netherlands. Born in Morocco, he immigrated to the Netherlands when he was 10 years old and managed later to be part of the political scene of the European country. He worked as A civil servant, police officer and educator.
