The family of the Moroccan sailors kidnapped in Nigeria calls the government to intervene

The family of a Moroccan navy merchant, believed to be kidnapped by Nigerian pirates in the Gulf of Guinea, has called the government in a statement to react to the incident that took place a week ago, reports Al Arabiya.

According to the same source, the Moroccan online newspaper, Hespress was handed a letter on Monday from the family of one of the two Moroccan sailors allegedly kidnapped.

«In the letter the family demanded that the Moroccan authorities intervene through the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of International Cooperation with the Nigerian authorities to rescue the men and start negotiations with the kidnappers», Al Arabiya wrote.

Responding to the incident, the Moroccan government has assured that it is working on resolving the matter, as pointed out by the same source.

For the record, two Moroccan nationals, one is a captain and the second an engineer, were allegedly kidnapped by pirates in the territorial waters of Nigeria. Moroccan sailors urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to intervene with the Congolese and Nigerian authorities. On Tuesday, a ship was attacked by pirates on the night of July 29-30 near a Nigerian Island named Bonny located in the Gulf of Guinea.
