On the other side of the Mediterranean, the relatives of Driss Oukabir, arrested by the Spanish authorities, and his brother Moussa, killed in Cambrils during the night from Thursday to Friday by the police, are «shocked».

AFP was able to visit the village of Melouiya to interview their father. «We are in shock, completely shattered», with tears in their eyes, their father Said Oukabir, surrounded by family members, neighbors and friends who came to offer their condolences.

«Spanish police today called his mother who is in Spain to tell her that Moussa was dead,» he told AFP shortly before the official announcement on Friday night by the Catalan police.

Aged 17, Moussa was killed by a policeman on the night of Thursday to Friday, with other assailants. They had launched at full speed an Audi A3 on the promenade of the seaside resort of Cambrils, Spain. His brother Driss, 27, was arrested Thursday in Ripoll with three other people.

The two attacks in Cambrils and Barcelona killed 14 people and injured nearly 120 others, AFP said.

Said Oukabir immigrated to Spain in 1990, to the province of Girona in Catalonia. His son Driss, who spent his childhood in Aghbala, eight kilometers from his native village, was ten years old. Moussa, who would have celebrated his 18th birthday in October, was born in Ripoll. The family had since lived between Melouiya, Aghbala and their host country.

The announcement of the alleged involvement of the two brothers in the attacks that struck Spain was a shock to their relatives, who claimed that they had not shown any sign of extremism.«They showed no signs of radicalization. They lived like other youngsters of their age, dressed like them,» swears the father according to whom «Moussa was a nice boy who did no harm to anyone. «In recent times, he began to pray ... but it stopped there. He was young, not mature yet, and he was probably manipulated,» he says.
