Sexual assault on a bus in Casablanca : Six people are under arrest

A terrifying video has been widely relayed on social media since yesterday, Sunday. A young girl was seen to be sexually assaulted by a group of minors. The video is unbearable and resulted in a high amount of reactions on social media, illustrating the indignation of the general public.

According to a source reported by 2M.ma online newspaper, four people implicated in the assault were arrested this morning. A fifth individual was also identified.

The author of the video, named Hamza claimed he lost his phone. He and his accomplices attacked Imane, a mentally disabled person, on a bus in Casablanca without anybody coming to her rescue. The father of the victim was heard by the investigators at the police premises in Casablanca.

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) is in charge of the investigation. It was revealed that the young people involved in the case are part of a wider gang that is involved in unrest in Sidi Bernoussi area in Casablanca.

2M channel reported in its 12:45 TV news edition today that the case was three months old, according to the first findings of the investigation.

In a statement issued today by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN ), «6 teenagers aged between 15 and 17 were arrested» on Monday. The minors are allegedly believed to be the ones behind the sexual assault filmed in a bus in Casablanca.

According to the communiqué, the video is three months old and neither the victim nor the bus driver have filed a complaint about the incident.

«The suspects were detained next to their place of residence in Maagiz Bernoussi neighborhood», the same source explains adding that the primary investigations suggest that the victim lives in the same area, that she is mentally challenged and was born in 1993. The alleged assailants are currently held in custody.
