The Catalan police said on Thursday that they formally identified the last member of the jihadist cell suspected of having carried the attacks in Catalonia last week, AFP reported. It is Youssef Aalla, killed in the accidental explosion in the house of Alcanar where the police found 120 bottles of cylinders. «It is the last member of the cell» whose identity was still to be determined, added the Mossos d'Esquadra, quoted by Agence France-Presse.

Youssef Aalla was the brother of two other alleged members of the cell : Said, 18, shot dead by police in Cambrils, southern Barcelona, and Mohammed, 27, heard Tuesday by the judge and released under judicial supervision.

The police believe that the explosion of the improvised lab pushed the survivors the next day to change their plans and use a van and a car to crush passers-by. The two attacks killed 15 people and injured more than 120 others, according to the latest report issued by the Spanish authorities.

The first body identified in the Alcanar explosion is that of Abdelbaki Es Satty, the imam living in Ripoll, suspected of having played a key role in the radicalization of the other members of the cell.

On Thursday, the last suspect, whose custody had been extended, was released and placed under judicial supervision. Two suspects in the attacks of Barcelona and Cambrils were interrogated for «membership of a terrorist organization, murder, and carrying explosive devices», and were detained, according to a judicial source.
