Mohamed Aabbassi, who had rescued a mother and her child during a fire in a building in Antwerp, was honored on Monday by the City of Brussels for his brave gesture. This is reported by the Belgian television Bx1, indicating that the young man received the medal of heroism from the Mayor Philippe Close (PS).
A well-known player from the Brussels sports world, he had saved the lives of two people, a mother and her baby, during a fire in Antwerp. He worked in a snack in the Flemish city when he saw the mother and her child, frightened, unable to walk down the three floors of the building.
«Taking his courage in both hands, Mohamed Aabbassi has come forward to help the two people,» recalls Bx1. After saving the mother and her child, Mohamed Aabbassi went up to help another woman on the second floor before losing consciousness. He was then hospitalized and became, in the aftermath of the fire, a hero.
Nearly two months after the incident, the 20-year-old was honored by the City of Brussels for this gesture, receiving the medal of heroism on the occasion of the communal council on Monday 25 September.
