Moroccans are the most frequent citizens of illegal immigration on the Spanish coast especially in Andalusia, according to the regional online newspaper, Diario de Sevilla.

Overall, Sub-Saharans are still much more numerous, but findings reveal that Moroccan nationals immigrate the most to Spain, followed by Algerians, according to statistical data unveiled last week in Rome by the Spanish Interior Minister, Juan Ignacio Zoido to his Italian counterpart, Marco Minniti.

Between the end of May and 10th of September, 2,683 Moroccans (25% totally) and 1,244 Algerians arrived by sea in Spain, mainly in Almeria. Furthermore, there are 768 sub-Saharan migrants. 4,567 Sub-Saharans were not identified, although the Interior says that most of them are from countries in the Sahel region, notably Chad and Burkina Faso.

While there are relatively few Moroccan migrants in Spain, they also emigrate to Europe using other routes, such as the one connecting Turkey to Greece, pretending to be Syrian or Iraqi refugees, or more recently, the road linking Italy to Libya. Since the beginning of this year until September the 19th, 4,902 Moroccans have arrived illegally in the Italian coasts.
