The Taourirt section of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) sounded the alarm on Monday regarding the health of Redouane Afassi who is detained in the Taourirt local prison.

In a press release reported by Alyaoum 24, the NGO recalls that Afassi was transferred from the local prison of Al Hoceima to that of Taourirt on Friday the 15th of September while he was on a hunger strike. An «arbitrary transfer that is part of a strategy initiated by the General Directorate of Prison Administration and Reintegration», continues AMDH-Taourirt, accusing the DGAPR of «punishing the detainees of the Hirak» by «deporting them to other prisons».

«The health of the prisoner Redouane Afassi continues to deteriorate. He was taken to the regional hospital on Thursday (September 28th) after suffering from low blood pressure, threatening his natural right to life,» the association said.

The latter calls for «an immediate intervention to save the detainee’s life», by responding to all his demands and those of all detainees of the Hirak , currently in the local prison of Taourirt and in all Moroccan prisons.

For the record, the court of appeal of Al Hoceima refused on the 2nd of August to grant temporary release to Redouane Afassi, after spending 16 days on a hunger strike.

He was convicted by the Al Hoceima Court of First Instance. He was accused of «attempting to deliberately set fire to a tanker», «insulted the public forces» and «participated in an unauthorized demonstration» in Imzouren. Redouane Afassi never ceased to proclaim his innocence.
