The Moroccan Embassy in Brussels denounced strongly the remarks made by the Belgian Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Theo Francken, who told Belgian media in an interview conducted on Saturday that Morocco is «among the countries where human rights are not respected».

«The Embassy of Morocco in Belgium expresses its deep protest and deep indignation following the statements made by the Belgian Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Mr. Theo Francken», says a statement addressed to the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a communiqué issued by the Embassy on Monday, it is indicated that Francken’s statement is unfounded. The Embassy considers that this kind of «hazardous, provocative and untimely statements» are regrettable, coming from a member of the Belgian government, whereas relations between the two countries have reached «an exceptional degree of density and support».
