The young Moroccan writer Salim Bouazzati won the first prize of the 2017 edition of the literary competition «A sea of words» launched by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and the Anna Lindh Foundation.
Salim Bouazzati (22 years old) won for his work «Loaf of bread», which describes the despair of a young emigrant in Melilla, IEMed said on Tuesday in a press release reported by MAP news agency.
Bouazzati’s novel was chosen among 225 works that were competing in the 10th edition of the literary competition «A sea of Words», said the same source.
«This will be the 10th year of a contest that, since 2008, has sought to give a voice to young Euro-Mediterranean people aged between 18 and 30. On the occasion of this anniversary, the subject chosen has been 'Youths, stereotypes and radicalisation', to encourage participants to write about experiences related to how they see themselves and if they think that society imposes stereotypes on them», the institute said on its website.
