Morocco is willing to target the Indian tourism market in the upcoming years, said the director general of the Moroccan National Office of Tourism (ONMT), Adberrafie Zouiten.

«Morocco wants to open up more and more to India, one of the emerging countries, and hopes to capture the attention of a large number of Indian tourists and make them visit the kingdom,» said the CEO of the ONMT in an interview with MAP news agency after a working visit to New Delhi.

He added: «The ONMT was able, during this visit, to obtain the authorization of the Indian authorities to open a regional office in New Delhi in early 2018,» said Abderrafie Zouiten. This step is the result of the «fruitful» cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Moroccan Embassy in India.

«Moroccan-Indian relations have been strengthened, particularly after the historic visit of King Mohammed VI to New Delhi in October 2015 as part of the India-Africa Forum Summit,» said the senior official.

Through the ONMT’s new office in India, Morocco will be able to position itself in the tourism industry. India is the third largest economy in Asia, with the second largest population in the world.

Cooperation and partnership agreements will also be signed at the next joint working meetings between tourism stakeholders of both countries, said Abderrafie Zouiten.
