Affected by one of the worst attacks on the 11th of September 2001, the city of New York was again targeted by terrorism. On Tuesday, a 29-year-old Uzbekistan native rammed the crowds in south Manhattan. The alleged terrorist has «caused the death of eight people and wounded eleven others», wrote Le Figaro. The attack took place on Halloween, a «very famous» holiday massively celebrated in the United States.
The alleged assailant is called Sayfullo Saipov, a 29-year-old Uzbek who legally arrived in the United States in 2010, as the police told the New York Times (NYT).
On Tuesday, the alleged terrorist was «identified by the authorities as an Uzbek (...) with links to the Islamic State,» said Le Figaro. After being shot in the stomach by the police, he was interrogated while on his hospital bed, says NYT.
Of the eight people killed, «five were Argentinian and one Belgian. Two people have not been identified yet. Three Belgian nationals, a German and an Argentinean figure among the wounded, indicated Brussels, Berlin and Buenos Aires», specifies the same source. In total, eleven people were injured and transferred to the hospital.
Mohammed Benabdeljali, Consul General of Morocco in New York told Yabiladi that «there no Moroccan casualties». According to the diplomat, «all the consulates concerned were notified individually by the Foreign Office. We were not among them therefore no Moroccans were killed nor injured in the attack».
