Moroccan-Canadian mountaineer injured after falling off a top in Mexico

A Moroccan-Canadian climber was seriously injured in the head, on Thursday, on the Pico de Orizaba, also known as Citlaltépetl, a Mexican volcano on the border between the states of Veracruz and Puebla ( southern Mexico) according to, El Sol of Puebla, a local newspaper.

The accident, caused by a rock slide, occurred at an altitude of 5,200 meters. The man was not wearing a helmet.

According to a preliminary report, the athlete was injured in the head and and had a broken shoulder. He also lost consciousness because of his injuries.

Salvador Delgadillo Masias, technical director of the Mexican Alpine Club, gave him first aid before the club delegate in Ciudad Serdán, a nearby city, came to help him and down the mountaineer on a stretcher.

He was then taken to the Ciudad Serdán Hospital by the Civil Protection.
