The U.S. Consulate General and Dar America in Casablanca will have to close their doors on Friday afternoon for security measures, said the U.S. Embassy in Morocco on its official website.
After publishing a security message reminding U.S. citizens of the need for caution and awareness of personal security following President Donald Trump’s recent decision, the American Mission in Morocco stated today that «due to possible demonstrations on Friday, December 08, 2017, after 12:00 noon, the U.S. Consulate General and Dar America in Casablanca will be closed to the public and for non-essential services».
In its message the U.S. Mission Morocco insisted that «several groups have announced public protests following the U.S. announcement of a new policy with regard to the status of Jerusalem» reminding U.S. citizens that «even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can be unpredictable and may escalate into violence».
Contacted by Yabiladi, a source from the U.S. Embassy indicated that «ensuring the safety of U.S. citizens is an essential function» and that it this includes «informing U.S. citizens of large gatherings or protests and issuing reminders about personal safety».
«We appreciate Moroccans’ respect for the safety and security of U.S. citizens while exercising their right to peacefully express their opinions», stated the same source.
