Professor Jamal Eddine Naji was elected on Friday, December 8, to chair the Orbicom International Network of UNESCO Chairs in Communications, by the 300 members of this international non-governmental organization, meeting in general assembly.

This UN network was created in 1997 at the initiative of UNESCO and the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM), where it sits. It has nearly 40 Chairs and over 270 Associate Members, spread across 72 countries, including academics, researchers, media decision-makers, and media professionals in the industry.

Mr Naji, elected for a renewable two-year term, is the founder of a Chair in «Public and Institutional Communication» in 1999 (1999/2005), then a Chair in «Public and Community Communication» in 2006 ( 2006/2011). Two Chairs installed at the Higher Institute of Information and Communication (ISIC) of Rabat, where Jamal Eddine Naji was a professor-researcher from 1984 to 2008.

As president of Orbicom, he will lead the network's board of directors, including Prof. Jean-Louis Roy (Canada), former secretary general of the International Organization of La Francophonie, and Prof. Ghislaine Azemard, holder of the UNESCO Chair «Transmission and Digital Publishing Innovation» at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme Foundation.
