On her way to school, a young girl was assaulted on Friday in Toronto because of her hijab, reports The Guardianaq and La Presse. Khawlah Noman, 11, was approached by an individual in his twenties. The latter cut off the girl's veil using a pair of scissors, according to Toronto police.
Je pense de tout cœur à Khawlah Noman, qui a lâchement été attaquée ce matin à Toronto. Le Canada est un pays ouvert et accueillant. Les attaques de ce genre ne peuvent pas être tolérées.

The man attacked Khawlah twice. After his first attempt, he followed the two children who said they had gone to other school children «to feel safer». It was then that he assaulted her again before fleeing. The girl said she was «terrified», but she and her brother are safe and sound.
Speaking to the media at her home, Khawlah said he turned her face to confront the individual, «but he just smiled before fleeing again». Her scarf torn apart said La Presse.
Commenting on the incident, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his support for the girl. He recalled that his country was «open and welcoming», while stressing that «attacks of this kind can not be tolerated».
Indeed, this incident is not the first of its kind. He recalls the other attacks against Muslims in Canada for several months.
