Abdellatif Merdas’ murderer sentenced to death

Hicham Mouchtari, accused of killing in March 2017 MP Abdellatif Merdas, has been sentenced to death, reports Media 24. The accused was found guilty Monday, January the 15th, after a hearing that took place in Casablanca’s Appeal Court. The sentence was required by the public prosecutor.

His widow, Ouafae Ben Samadi, his nephew, Hamza Mouchtari, as well as Roukia Shahbou, are all considered as accomplices, actively participating in the commission of the crime. They were sentenced to life imprisonment, 30 years and 20 years' imprisonment respectively.

Tuesday, March 7, 2017, late in the evening, Abdellatif Merdas, a member of the Constitutional Union party (UC), was murdered near his place located in the Benghazi Street, in the California district (Casablanca). Shot in the head, neck and chest, he died while he was inside his car.

His nephew, Hamza Mouchtari, was transferred to Morocco in April 2017, after he fled the country heading to Turkey. He had been arrested following the international arrest warrant issued by the Moroccan authorities.
