Nikki Haley, US ambassador to the UN, expressed her regrets on Thursday January 18th to African ambassadors who said they were outraged by Donald Trump's insulting comments about immigration according to one of the diplomats, reports the Huffington Post France.

Following a statement published last Friday demanding an apology of the American president for his «racist» remarks, Nikki Haley requested a meeting with African ambassadors to the United Nations, according to Equatorial Guinea ambassador Anatalio Ndong Mba.

The diplomat said that the US ambassador did not apologize during the private meeting but expressed her regrets. Haley explained to the African diplomats that «she was not at the White House and she was not sure what was said, but that she regretted the whole situation», continued Anatolio Ndong Mba.

The Equato-Guinean ambassador further explained that the African group of emissaries had «made a recommendation» to Nikki Haley to ease the tensions, which she promised to pass on to Donald Trump. Speaking on condition of anonymity, diplomats said they had proposed that the US president send a message of friendship to the African leaders at their upcomming summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as a sign of goodwill.

For the record, Donald Trump supposedly, during a meeting at the White House on Thursday January 12th, according to the New York Times and the Washington Post, which cite several anonymous sources, asked «why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here ?», while refering to several African countries as well as El Salvador and Haiti.
