The University of Murcia announced on Friday that it has published a Spanish-Moroccan dialect dictionary, entitled «Al-Madyaq» and signed by the researcher Lahoucine El Ghazouani.

This dictionary, published by Editum, the publishing house of the university, responds to the great interest expressed by Spanish universities, whose Arabic language departments opt for an integrated method for teaching Arabic as a foreign language, said the university on its website.

The objective of this initiative is to enable students from these departments to acquire new sociolinguistic and inter-cultural skills through these two variants of the Arabic language.

This book is also designed as a tool to facilitate communication between staff from different sectors (government officials, doctors, social workers, teachers ...) and Moroccan immigrants.

Lahoucine El Ghazouani has already published in 2007 a Spanish-Arabic Arabic-Moroccan-Moroccan Arabic glossary entitled «Al-Muhajir».

The new dictionary follows the same schema of the glossary but introduces important novelties, particularly on the lexico-semantic level and in the phonetic transcription, explained Editum.
