Air Arabia eyes growth this year in Morocco

Air Arabia PJSC, a low-cost airline headquartered in the United Arab Emirates, said that it expects Morocco to be a growth driver this year after the company reached its highest profit on record, reports Bloomberg.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Adel Abdullah Ali, Air Arabia’s Chief Executive Officer stated that this year «good spots for us would be Morocco, which is going from strength to strength, and we’re putting more capacity on those lines».

Indeed, the company’s full-year profit reached 29 percent to USD 172 million. When it comes to passengers, the same source adds that Air Arabia carried in 2017 8.5 million passengers in comparison to last year when it only transported 8.4 million.

For the record, Air Arabia Maroc a joint venture and member of Air Arabia Group, was launched in April 2009 in Morocco and offers services to a wide range of European destinations. 

Meanwhile, 2017 was an «exceptional» year for the Moroccan tourism sector with a strong growth in the number of non-resident tourist arrivals, overnight stays in classified hotels and receipts in foreign currency. In a statement, the ministry noted that the number of arrivals of tourists at border posts was 11.35 million in 2017, up 10% compared to 2016, more than 1 million additional tourists.
