The father of the Ivorian child, who was hidden inside a suitcase in the Ceuta border crossing, was fined to 92 Euros by the city’s court on Tuesday, 20th of February, AFP reports.

He can finally reunite with his family after the audience. «Everything is over now, we can start over all together, my wife, my daughter, my son and I in Bilbao», said the father, Ali Ouattara, referring to the industrial port city in northern Spain.

45-year-old Ouattara was convicted after his son was spotted inside a suitcase trying to cross the borders of Ceuta in May the 7th 2015. With the help of an x-ray scanner the Civil Guard managed to see Abou Ouattara curled up in an inhuman position.

The court decided to fine the father instead of sentencing him to prison taking into consideration the fact that he had already spent one month in preventive detention.

The same source points out that the child was not informed about the suitcase. He was told that he would cross the borders in a car to reunite with his father who has been living in Spain for eight years. The latter arrived illegally to Canary Island. His wife and daughter managed to join him but Abou couldn’t as his request was rejected by the authorities.

After his Grandmother died, the child had to live with his 18-year-old brother who couldn’t take care of him. It is then when the father decided to pay smugglers in order to bring his son without knowing that they would put him in a suitcase.

For the record, the Moroccan girl who carried the suitcase is wanted by the court and might face a six-year sentence.
