Last night at Hassan Belmehdi hospital in Laayoune, Mohamed El Ayoubi, one of the defendants of the Gdim Izik's group, died. Sentenced to twenty years in prison by the Salé Court of Appeal, the deceased enjoyed freedom of movement and lived at his place.

He had a serious illness and had never been incarcerated, unlike other members of the group, apart from Hassan Alia, who lives in Spain. Because of his health condition, Mohamed El Ayoubi could not appear at the court which pronounced a ruling against him on December 20, 2017.

In January of the same year, the prosecution had decided to try him separately. Since then, he had been on parole because of his condition, which prevented him from attending the hearings. He was accused of «aggravated assault» against members of the security forces as part of the Gdim Izik camp event s that occurred on the 8th of November 2010.

The funeral of El Ayoubi is scheduled for Thursday in Laayoune.
