Dozens of public officials are prosecuted for corruption, according to El Othmani

Prime Minister, Saad Eddine El Othmani, said Thursday that dozens of public officials are prosecuted for corruption, and that their cases are processed by the courts that «will have to pronounce their verdicts».

Speaking at the government council, El Othmani stated that several other officials are currently being investigated for curroption allegations while others are being tried. «We do not have the right to denounce a person arrested for corruption, as he or she can be innocent», said the Prime Minister.

He added that the judicial authorities have managed to bring dozens of cases to justice, based on direct complaints from citizens or through the Ministry of Justice toll-free number.

Referring to the government's determination to implement the anti-corruption plan, El Othmani said that the the National Anti-Corruption Committee will hold its meeting in one month to discuss the reports conducted by other sub-commissions.

El Othmani emphasized the importance he attaches to the fight against corruption wich is a responsibility that falls on all different bodies including the government, the public authorities, the civil society and the private sector, and esearchers, insisting that media platforms must also engage in this fight.

«While our country has made progress in the fight against corruption, it is still insufficient and we are dissatisfied with the situation. We are looking to achieve the best for our country in the present and the future», he added.

On the other hand, he stressed that the government is currently working on revising a number of laws and decrees «to raise the level of transparency».
