The Arab League denounced on Monday Guatemala’s decision to transfer its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem in May, the month that commemorate the Palestinian Nakba in 1948, reports MAP news agency.

Speaking to media, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories, Saeed Abu Ali urged Guatemala to abandon this position, pointing out that Al-Quds is an occupied territory and that it is «illegal».

For him, moving the Embassy of Guatemala to Jerusalem violates «the United Nations resolutions, including Security Council resolutions 252 (1968), 267 (1969), 476 and 478 (1980).»

Abu Ali called Guatemala to respect the international resolutions adopted by the majority of countries, refusing to violate the international system and taking any action aimed at undermining the status of Al-Quds.

Guatemala's president, Jimmy Morales, announced on Sunday that his country will transfer its Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Al-Quds in May, two days after the United States does the same thing.
