Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture, Sea Fishery, Rural Development, Water Bodies & Forests is the richest man in Morocco, according to the 2018 Forbes ranking «The World’s Billionaires».
With $ 2.2 billion real time net worth, the businessman is ranked 1103th in the world and 12th in Africa. Akhannouch was able to top the national list after his fortune prospered throughout the year. According to Forbes the Minister went from $ 1.4 billion in March 2014 to over $ 2 billion in 2018.
On the other hand, Akhannouch was ahead of Othmane Benjelloun who has been Morocco’s richest man for years. The CEO of BMCE Bank of Africa, which has a presence in more than 20 African countries, is ranked 1477th after he was 1098th in 2017. Benjelloun has an estimated real time net worth of $ 1.66 billion.
Unlike last year, Anas Sefrioui founder of Douja Prom-Addoha real estate group was not incuded this year in the ranking. For the record, he was listed third in Morocco after Benjelloun and Akhannouch in 2017.
Globally, the Forbes ranking was topped by Jeff Bezos, Amazon owner, followed by Bill Gates (Microsoft), Warren Buffett (Berkshire Hathaway), Bernard Arnault (LVMH) and Mark Zukerberg (Facebook).
