Horst Köhler plans to pay Laayoune a four-day visit on the first week of April. Officials at the MINURSO’s headquarters are getting ready to receive the German mediator, and walls are being painted preparing for this visit.
During his stay in the city, the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara will have to tour the area by plane, visiting the MINURSO’s 4 Team-Site installed on both sides of the security wall.
In Laayoune, Köhler should meet with representatives of the pro-Polisario associations present there, trade unionists and the Moroccan authorities.
Announcing this visit comes as UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is expected in the coming days to present a report on Western Sahara.
