MP Mustapha Laabid (LREM) announced that the France-Morocco friendship, a group he is heading, will organize at the beginning of May at the National Assembly an evening party to support Morocco’s bid to host the 2026 World Cup, reports Atlasinfo.
The French Football Federation and the President of the National Assembly, François de Rugy, will participate in the event.
«I am organizing in the National Assembly at the beginning of May an evening party to support the Moroccan bid for hosting the 2026 World Cup in partnership with the French Football Federation and in the presence of our president, François de Rugy, and distinguished French and Moroccan personalities», Mustapha Laabid told Atlasinfo before traveling to Rabat with a delegation.

«Morocco can host the World Cup and it will be an extraordinary event,» he added, stressing that the France-Morocco friendship group is doing its best to defend the kingdom's bid.
Meanwhile, Mustapha Laabid also wants to «give a boost to interparliamentary cooperation» and «consolidate the partnership between our two countries».
«The goal of our visit is to position the friendship group as an unsurpassed partner of Morocco. We intend to set up interparliamentary cooperation based on exchanges and sharing solutions for the development of our two countries,» he said.
For the record, President of the French Football Federation (FFF), Noël Graët, has announced this week that France will vote on June 13 for Morocco to stage the 2026 World Cup.
«I do not see myself not supporting a country close to us», said the president of the FFF in an interview published Thursday by «L'équipe» paper, recalling that «Africa has only had one World Cup. That's not a lot.»
