A task force sent by FIFA has arrived Monday in Morocco to evaluate the country’s ability to host the 2026 World Cup, said Morocco’s bid committee in a statement sent to Yabiladi.
«Today, the committee is set to receive 5 members from the Task Force as well as others from the FIFA administration for a three-day-visit», said the same communiqué.
The FIFA delegation is expected to travel from the 17th to the 19th of April to several cities in the Kingdom, visiting stadiums, training camps, Fan fests and media centers, as well as other facilities related to the organization of the competition.
Commenting on the long-awaited visit, president of the bid committee Moulay Hafid Elalamy stated that «Morocco is offering... an innovative and compact concept to ensure operational efficiency, outstanding profitability and a lasting legacy in Morocco and Africa».
According to Elalamy this visit would «strive to convey the vision of a humble, passionate, determined bid, but above all a professional and solid one.»
The 2026 Morocco bid committee will hold a press conference in Casablanca later to inform the public about the visit.
Morocco is the only bidding nation competing against the North American joint bid led by the United States. The Kingdom has already made unsuccessful bids to host the tournament in 1994, 1998, 2006 and 2010.
