U.S. Department of States' human rights practices report hails Morocco's efforts

The U.S. Department of State issued on Friday, 20th of April, its 2017 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, which include Morocco, recognizing the positive steps the Kingdom took in 2017 to stregthen its respect for human rights, a communiqué sent to Yabiladi by the U.S. Embassy reported.

In its annual reports, the U.S. Department of State highlighted the efforts Morocco made last year to eradicate torture, and improve the independence of the judiciary. It also hailed the decline in allegations of torture, abuse in detention and the country's efforts to investigate and hold accountable those responsible for violations.

«Morocco’s police and prison administrations regularly sought and acquired opportunities to expand the capacity and competency of its institutions and personnel, much of it in collaboration with the United States», said the same press release.

The annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices is submitted annually by the the U.S. Department of State. It investigates internationally recognized individual, civil political and worker rights based on the Declaration of Human Rights and other international agreements.
