Henri Michel, a former French footballer and coach known for managing the Moroccan football team for five years passed away on Tuesday, 24th of April, Lino Bacco co-founder of Sports-focused radio channel Radio Mars tweeted this morning.
Born in October 1947 in Aix-en-Provence, the coach started his career as a midfielder for AS Aix between 1964 and 1966. He moved later to FC Nantes and played for the club until his retirement in 1982.

Michel managed several national teams such as France, Cameroon, Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya and Morocco for two seperate terms. He was Morocco’s national football team manager for the first time from 1995 to 2000, a period during which he succeeded in helping the Atlas Lions qualify for the 1998 World Cup staged by France.
Henri Michel managed the Moroccan national team again from the beginning of 2007 to February 2008.
The French coach managed other clubs such as Egypt’s Zamalek, Sundowns and Raja Casablanca for two terms.
