Vladimir Putin appoints a new ambassador to Morocco

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed on Tuesday, 24th of April, Valerian Chovaev as new ambassador to Morocco, said Russian news agency Sputnik quoting the Kremlin.

The decision was made public by a statement published on the official website of Russian legal information, said the same source. The diplomat was named Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Morocco.

For the record, the diplomat held several diplomatic positions before. Between 2004 and 2008, he was Russia’s ambassador to Libya and to Iraq from 2008 to 2012.

Aside the appointment of a new ambassador to Rabat, the news agency reported that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Alexeyevich Ryabkov and Moroccan Ambassador to Russia Abdelkader Lahab held talks on Tuesday and discussed diplomatic relations between the two countries and the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
