King Mohammed VI and Saudi Arabia’s King Salman spoke on Thursday, discussing ways of uniting their positions to counter the destabilizing attempts of the Iranian regime, reports Arab News quoting the Saudi press agency.
In a phone call, the Saudi monarch stressed that his Kingdom stands with Rabat «against what could jeopardize its security, stability and territorial integrity», says SPA.
«The two leaders underscored the importance of unifying their positions and coordinating the efforts to confront the aggressive tendency of the Iranian regime, its intervention as well as that of its agents in the Affairs of Arab countries and its policies aiming at destabilizing the security of the Arab world», said the agency in its report.
This phone call comes as Morocco announced earlier this week that it was severing diplomatic ties with Iran for supporting the Polisario.
The decision was a «reaction to Iran’s confirmed involvement through Hezbollah, in providing support for the Polisario».
While, Iran, Hezbollah and the Front denied involvement in Morocco’s domestic issues, Gulf countries have voiced their backing to the decision.
The Gulf Cooperation Council, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have expressed their solidarity with Morocco in defending its sovereignty.
