Morocco strongly condemned on Wednesday the shooting by the Israeli army at participants in peaceful protests along the border with the Gaza strip, claiming dozens of victims and wounding hundreds of Palestinian citizens.

Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said, in a press briefing with his Spanish counterpart Alfonso Dastis, in response to a question on Morocco's position on the latest events in Gaza, that Morocco strongly condemns the excessive use of force against unarmed Palestinian civilians, reaffirms its total rejection of this dangerous behaviour that runs counter the international law and calls for peace and ending these unacceptable escalation practices that are worsening the situation.

The Kingdom of Morocco deplores these tragic events, which claimed the lives of civilian demonstrators who were peacefully protesting, mainly against the transfer of the American embassy to Al Quds, the minister added.

Regarding this transfer, the Minister recalled the message sent by King Mohammed VI, President of the Al Quds Committee, to the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, wherein the sovereign reaffirmed his rejection of this unilateral step that is contrary to international law and Security Council resolutions, and reiterated Morocco's firm commitment to continue working with the American Administration to adopt a balanced position that could revive the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis, to spare no effort in mobilizing the international community to ensure the triumph of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East of Al-Quds as capital, and to continue the strong and steadfast solidarity of the Kingdom with the brotherly Palestinian people for the defence of their just cause, especially with regard to the city of Al-Quds.
