During a weekly session held at the House of Councilors, Tuesday in Rabat, Minister of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development Aziz Rabbah said that 80% of the job opportunities provided by phosphate company Phosboucraa are granted to Sahrawis.

Responding to a question asked by a Sarhawi elected member of the Istiqlal party, Rabah stressed that the phosphate extracted from the Sahara accounts for only 2% of OCP’s production.

For the record, members of the Sahrawi coordination of unemployed graduates often demonstrate in the region, protesting against unemployment. In March 2017, they had taken over a bus owned by Phosboucraa and threatened to set themselves on fire.

In November 2016, young people carrying the same demands had moved from Laayoune to Rabat, asking for the help of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS).
