In August 2015, six-year-old girl Shiloé Khokhar tossed a bottle overboard with a message inside and threw it in the sea when on a vacation with her family in Bermuda. Three years later, the bottle with the letter inside was found in Morocco by a fisherman called Hassan Elbaz, says Newsday.
The 62-year-old man discovered the bottle on Plage Blanche, near Guelmim in southern Morocco broke it and gave the letter to his son to read it out. «My father doesn't know how to read», said Ayoung Elbaz who sent an email to Shiloé once he read her message.
«Honestly, I thought it was a lie. I asked myself how a girl age six could write a letter», Ayoub told the same source.
In her letter, the young girl who is now 9 years old, wrote : «I want to wish you a happy and health [sic] life».
She put a crystal she found in a cave inside and added «it is my present to you...Please email me…if you find my bottle».
«I waited and waited and then I gave up», said Shiloé after knowing that finally someone found her letter.
«I think it's really cool because it actually took almost three years, I thought it would go to England because of the current of the ocean».
While Shiloé thought that her letter would reach England, her father Imtiaz Khokhar did not think that it would make it at all.
«I didn’t think it was really going to go anywhere», Khokhar said. «I was just trying to make her happy».
Now the two families have been messaging each other daily and hope to meet in person someday, Newsday reported.
