Present in Tangier to attend the inauguration of a new fishing port and a new marina chaired by King Mohammed VI, Minister for Agriculture Aziz Akhannouch was received by the inhabitants of the northern city in an unusual way.

While they were awaiting the arrival of the sovereign, people chanted «Akhannouch, go away», demanding that the minister and businessman quits his post.

On social media, a video was published showing the scene and linking the people’s anger to the viral boycott campaign, targeting three companies including the country’s leading fuel distributor Afriquia SMDC, owned by the minister.

Akhannouch ignored the shouts, focusing on the inauguration of the port he described as «a structural project for the sector in the region».

According to him, the port «will contribute to the development of three fishing types, improving the working conditions of fishermen».
