In Kaliningrad to cheer for the Atlas Lions, Moroccan-American national Yassine Omairy was arrested, Monday, in Russia for wearing a t-shirt with the caption «Shame on you FIFA».
Through a series of posts, Omairy who was in the city to watch Morocco's last World Cup game this year against Spain, explained that he was asked by a FIFA representative to remove his t-shirt.
In a video posted on his Facebook account and shared on social media, Yassine Omairy was trying to explain to what appears to be a Russian man that the sentence was not that provocative.
«Shame on you, there is nothing wrong with it», said Omairy trying to convince the man on the same video.
The Morocco national football team's fan was released later as he announced in a Facebook post, saying : «I’m out ..... Thank You US Embassy».
In a different Facebook post Yassine Omairy wrote «thank god I got my passport back! I’m ok now, too bad I was not able to watch the whole game».
«Thanks to all my friends that called to check on me and many thanks to the Moroccan & the US Embassy as well», he wrote.
On social media, FIFA was criticized for not granting Morocco the right to use a VAR technology during its game against Portugal, held Wednesday in Moscow. Through a hashtag entitled «Shame on you FIFA» several Atlas Lions' fans took their anger to social media to protest against the referee's decisions during the match that eliminated Morocco.
On Monday, Spain was able to score an equalizer after it was granted the right to use the VAR. Morocco scored two goals during the game that ended in a draw.
