After a tough game against the Spanish team, French coach Hervé Renard, who manages currently the Atlas Lions, said he was proud of his squad’s performance at the 2018 World Cup, held in Russia, reported MAP.
«The team is leaving the competition with pride and we will be remembered for a long time especially because we have not lost to one of the world's best teams», he said, adding that the Atlas Lions «looked less experienced in the first game».
«We must be proud of these players and our fantastic fans».
Moreover, Renard admitted that he hasn’t been effective when the team «played against Iran which appeared more defensive, (…) but the equation was not the same when facing Portugal and Spain».
Regarding the use of the VAR technology, coach Renard said that «a referee’s job is difficult and video assistance has confirmed that the goal was valid, equalizing the score». Meanwhile, the coach questioned the corner granted to the Spanish team and the yellow cards given to several Moroccan players.
On the other hand, Spanish coach Fernando Hierro said that the Atlas Lions were a «very good team».
«The Moroccan squad was eliminated but they were a strong rival. In the end and despite difficulties, La Roja took the lead».
