Denouncing the heavy verdicts returned in Hirak trials, hundreds of people take to the streets in Rabat and Casablanca. In Paris, a gathering is scheduled for Saturday 30th of June for the same purpose.
Initiated by Hirak National Support Committee, human rights associations and some political parties, a sit-in was held yesterday in Casablanca where hundreds of people protested the heavy sentences handed down to 53 Hirak detainees.
Participating to the demonstration, Mustapha Brahma, secretary general of the Democratic Way party, told Yabiladi that «the state is determined to maintain the same approach even when demands and protests are social and peaceful». For him «it is unbelievable to see activists sentenced to 20, 15 and 10 years in prison».
On the other hand, Bouchra Rouissi, a lawyer who is also a member of the Hirak National Support Committee, stressed that «trials weren’t based on concrete evidence».
In Rabat, protesters gathered in front of the Parliament. The Hirak support committee in France called for a gathering on Saturday at Trocadero, from 4pm (Paris time).
